Mbozi, Tanzania
Washed Process Microlot
This washed process microlot opens with a vibrant berry sweetness and the clarity of steeped green tea. As the cup settles, the profile deepens into a syrupy, velvety mouthfeel defined by rich notes of dark maple syrup and 70 percent chocolate.
Grown at a high elevation of 1500 through 1700 MASL (meters above sea level), these beans develop a dense sweetness and complex acidity unique to the southern highlands.
In the southern highlands of Tanzania, coffee production is defined by the high altitude landscapes of the Mbozi district where the unique terroir produces a distinct syrupy body and refined acidity. Most coffee here is grown by smallholder farmers who manage small plots often intercropped with subsistence plants. Through organized cooperatives like Itumpi, farmers pool resources to access the specialty market and ensure their high altitude Bourbon and Blue Mountain varieties receive the recognition they deserve. To preserve these traits, the coffee undergoes a traditional washed method involving a 10 hour soak and sun drying on raised beds, resulting in a remarkably clean and structured cup.
