Aceh
Rich with vibrancy and complexity, this unique microlot from the Putra Gayo Mill in Aceh, Sumatra delivers a stunning cup profile that balances cooked cranberry and jammy blueberry flavors with elegant dried lavender notes and a bold, boozy acidity. It’s a fruit-forward adventure in your cup, thanks to the meticulous natural anaerobic processing methods used by Iwannitosa Putra and his team. With each sip, you'll taste the deep dedication and craftsmanship behind this coffee—from the careful cherry selection and long, slow drying process to the fertile volcanic soils where these beans grow.
Putra Gayo Mill sits within the breathtaking highlands of northern Sumatra at 1,400–1,650 meters above sea level, in a region known for its lush rainforests, diverse microclimates, and the legendary Lake Toba—the world’s largest volcanic lake. Uniquely, Iwannitosa bucks the local wet-hulling tradition, opting instead for washed and natural methods to achieve brighter, more expressive flavors. The farm spans 250 hectares with 275,000 coffee trees, growing varietals like Ateng, Bor Bor, Catimor, and Timor beneath the shade of banana, avocado, and jackfruit trees. These rare microlots are a celebration of traceability, sustainability, and innovation in a region where most coffees are still blended and anonymized. This is more than just coffee—it’s a taste of Sumatra’s evolving future.
